Polyelectrolyte layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly has been widely used as a versatile method for fabricating multilayer thin films with controlled structure and composition in a nanometer scale. Due to its facile, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly nature, there have been great interests in utilizing these versatile systems in biological areas, including biosensors, bioactive coatings, membranes, and drug delivery.
