REPORT OF THE TECHNICAL MEETING ON SEED POLICY AND PROGRAMMES FOR THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, COMMONWEALTH OF INDEPENDENT STATES AND OTHER COUNTRIES IN TRANSITION

The Meeting was convened to facilitate the development of seed policies and programmes for the region as part of the FAO strategy for implementing the recommendations of the Plan of Action of the World Food Summit, adopted in Rome in 1996, and the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, adopted in Leipzig, Germany, in 1996. The meeting, held in Budapest from 6-10 March 2001, was organized by the Agricultural Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), Martonvasar, with technical and financial support from the Food and the Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
