This study deals with the improvements of ignition and combustion for an alcohol spray to realize a high performance alcohol engine. We focused on the effects of compression ratio and hot EGR as the ways to realize higher temperature of entrained gas to a spray on ignition and combustion in a DI alcohol engine. Experiments were carried out in the three cases of compression ratio with hot EGR (0~30%) Results indicated that expanding the running area with stable self-ignition and combustion were possible by the control of hot EGR ratio under the high compression condition (ε=23).
