Research on Brake Assistance in Emergency Situation - Assistant Timing of Brake Assistance

In order to examine the assistant timing of a brake assistant system (BA), we executed a passive brake experiment and an active brake experiment in a test course by 10 subjects. We investigated subject's characteristics of judgment and operation for brakes, analyzed subject's judgment criteria for brake urgency degree, and made a contour map of brake urgency by use of two parameters to describe subject's braking operation. We also verified the possibility of presuming subject's braking will by using the brake urgency map, and proposed a method of setting up the assistant timing of BA system based on the map.
