Influence upon visibility of direction indicator lamps due to a difference in chromaticity or lighting type

When some foreign-made direction indicator lamps are observed from not a true back direction, the chromaticity may change. Consequently, the chromaticity differences of the direction indicators from various observation directions were measured. A visibility test was conducted on the basis of the measurement results and authors obtained a result of the feeling sense of incongruity when the chromaticity of the direction indicators showed a tinge of red exceeding the amber standard. In addition, an experiment was conducted to investigate recognition time in amber or red direction indicators. In the experiment, the stop-lamps had some cases mistaken for the red direction indicators.
