We developed a new Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) system that helps reduce fuel consumption and improves gear-shift quality. This AMT was constructed by adding a torque-assist mechanism to a conventional AMT. This mechanism provides a torque bypass in order to prevent the interruption of the torque transmitted to the wheels during gear shifting. This new AMT requires more advanced control than a conventional AMT, so developed a gear-shift simulator to help us develop the control software. This simulator improved the quality of the control program, and shortened the software development period.
