Emitting spherical waves and receiving the echo waves with sensor array, synthetic aperture can be implemented and instantaneous measurement and imaging for 3-dimensional area is available. Since exiting ultrasonic transducers have high directivity in the acoustic field, it is difficult to measure the wide area without scanning with the beams. This paper proposes 3-dimensional imaging system using laser-induced breakdown(LIB). LIB is dielectric breakdown generated by condensed energy of pulsed laser beams. LIB generates sharply pulsed ultrasound waves which have no directivity. Utilizing LIB as a sound source, wide area can be measured by single pulsed wave. Experimental results show that LIB is effective for the wide-view imaging.
