Development of FeSiAl-Based Low Iron Loss Soft Magnetic Powder Cores

Recently, there's been a growing trend toward reducing society's carbon footprint. Clean power generation systems, such as solar and wind generators, have been actively developed. Electric vehicles are also replacing petrol vehicles, and energy-saving electrical appliances are in demand more than ever. Due to this trend, small and powerful power-supply devices with better conversion efficiency are increasingly demanded, and accordingly, high performance inductors are required. In this study, magnetic properties of FeSiAl-based powder magnetic cores are reported. By optimizing powder alloy composition, particle insulation system, an excellent iron loss property has been successfully achieved. The developed material shows almost the same level of iron loss with ferrite core, and shows twice the magnetic flux density of ferrite. Besides, some results of applying the developed material to inductors are reported.
