At present natural gas for public gas supply i8s odorized almost exclusively with sulfur containing odofrants.Because of several reasons,e.g. air pollution casued by sulfur dioxide,coorrosiveness of the gas,sulfur content of distributed naturla gas should be reduced.Therefore the gas industry seeks for a sulfur-free odorant.To create a suitable sulfur-free odorant,kwhich meets the exisin requrieemnts,a lot of individual ocmponents and mixtures were tested with respect to odour intensity and odour characteri.Important results concerning quantitative analystical determination,genral quality requreemtns,odour character,odour intensity and sorption as well as possible chemical reactions are described.Hence that the procedure of patenting the sulfur-free odorant is not yet finished,we apologize that the preprints contian only a brief,ocmmon description of all these results.It is sure,that we will give more informaiton and detailled results during the poster session in San Diego.
