The paper presents results of application of two intelligent information management and decision support systems ("intelligent software tools"), which have been developed under the joint effort of European industry and European Commission within programs BRITE and SPRINT (the SP249 and BE5935 projects, respectively). The systems are used for analysis and assessment of remaining life and inspection planning (as parts of the overall power plant life and asset management). In SP249 the tools like large high temperature material database, large hypertext documentation base, various methods for life prediction (e.g. the those based on German TRD standards, A-parameter analysis, oxide thickness measurements, hardness-based methods, etc.) have been developed. The tools developed in BE5935 support planning of annual inspections in power plants. They suggest answers to questions like when to inspect, how to inspect (using which techniques, to what extent, etc.), and what to inspect (which components, locations, etc.). An example from a German power plant is given in the paper and it illustrates the practical use of these systems.
