Design of a periscopic coarse pointing assembly for optical multiple access

This paper discusses the coarse pointing assembly (CPA) requirements for the optical Multiple Access intersatellite link system. Mechanical and optical design aspects of a periscopic CPA with azimuth and elevation angular ranges of 360 degrees and plus/minus 120 degrees respectively, clear aperture of 7 cm, and a step size of 0.09 degrees are described. Mass budget estimates for a flight unit are presented. The total mass and maximum power consumption are 3.8 kg and 12 W respectively.
