The Common Core Standards are clear, consistent standards for k-12 grades in America that seek toprovide an understanding of the skills and knowledge students need to learn to be career- andcollege-ready as well as the content educators need to teach to ensure that readiness. AlthoughCommon Core has been adopted by numerous states since 2010, teachers and parents are stillconfused about the most effective way to support students in meeting Common Core Standards.While school librarians play a significant role in supporting teachers and children to achieveinstructional goals, there is a strategy that can be advantageous. School librarians and publiclibrarians can both benefit immensely by partnering together to support their stakeholders withCommon Core. For decades, school librarians and public librarians have worked independently;;however, they hold one essential common objective: to serve their patrons. This paper explores howschool librarians and public librarians can collaborate to serve their users in meeting Common Coreinstructional needs.
