Through Distance Learning (DL), the Open University of Brazilian National Health System (UNA-SUS)provides, in partnership with the Federal University of Maranhao (UFMA) and the State HealthDepartment of Maranhao, opportunities to participate in postgraduate, professional improvement andqualification courses, addressed to professionals working in public health care, in order to improve theprovision of their services, therefore resulting in quality care to the population. To increasingly promotethe production of knowledge and reflection on practices in the area of health, UNA-SUS/UFMA alwayspursues to innovate in the application of methodologies and ideas that help its students to perform thebest possible use in the courses which they are part. Among the tools used during the courses offeredby the institution, particularly one excelled because of its innovative and practical nature: the Work anEvaluation Plan (WEP), created by the educator Tiao Rocha. Available in the form of online book, theWEP is a valuable tool that allows the planning and execution of actions to occur concurrently with theevaluation of the results obtained during the implementation of a project. This is where the creativity ofthis tool is evident: it is organized in a table form and when it is read from left to right shows a plan ofaction with goals, objects, dimensions, questions, activities and stated indicators. When read in theopposite direction becomes an evaluation plan that determines whether the action took place on thesteps provided and if the results were achieved. This method saves time and adds dynamism to plansbesides helping to keep the focus for the goals outlined. Based on this idea, UNA-SUS/UFMAdeveloped six WEP models facing public health, specifically primary care, focusing on different targetgroups: children, adolescents, women, pregnant women, men and elderly. The use of this tool as anonline book has the potential to guide primary health care actions in Maranhao - Brazil, once theprofessional students knowledgeable of the its characteristics can apply it in their practice, givingspecial attention to the priorities of each group. This article aims to analyze minutely the WEPmethodological tool, implemented in the Specialization Course in Family Health, offered by UNASUS/UFMA, using the model that focuses on men health, including issues relating to healthy andunhealthy man. In the course of this analysis it is possible to understand how WEP works and howcan it be applied to deal with problems encountered in healthcare.
