Digital technologies are much more than tools;;they provide structure to new ways of thinking,knowing, behaving, relating to others, and building knowledge. They reach far beyond the physicallevel, reaching the sensory, cerebral and socio-emotional levels. This paper intends to investigate theprocess of reading and writing skills' acquisition of a quadriplegic child in home care education, inwhich computer and digital technologies were used to facilitate the child's learning. For this analysisthe qualitative methodology was chosen, using participative research procedures. The followingthemes are explored: the Brazilian laws that regulate both the administrative and pedagogical practiceof home care education;;the advantages of utilizing digital technologies and resources for learning;;assistive technologies and the use of information and communication technologies in the education ofpeople with physical deficiencies. The results suggest that the use of computers in the process ofacquiring reading and writing skills allows a child/person with physical deficiencies, to become thesubject of their own learning. Through their own trial and error, which has no room for nodiscrimination, they are able to conduct their own development process.
