This paper examined the effect of adopting PowerPoint on students' motivation and readingcomprehension through shared story reading. In this study, two shared story reading lessons weretaught using the big book and two were accompanied by PowerPoint multimedia. For the purpose oftriangulation, three data collections techniques were used in this study. The first instrument used wasclassroom observations which were conducted to assess students' motivation during the lessons. Thesecond instrument used was reading comprehension tests which were administered after each lessonto assess students' comprehension level. The third instrument was questionnaire which wasadministered at the end of the shared story reading process including closed- and open-endedquestions to see students' views and feelings about the PowerPoint and big book lessons. This studyfound that the students were highly motivated for the PowerPoint lessons than for the big booklessons. It was also found that the students' performance on the reading comprehension tests after thePowerPoint lessons was better than after the big book lessons. In addition, it was found that thestudents had positive views about the way of presenting stories using PowerPoint. However, it mustbe noted that the students' motivation during the big book lessons was not low, and in both cases theaverage scores of the reading comprehension tests were quite low.
