MEASURING THE FLICKER NUISANCE DURING PLAYING VIDEO ON RGB LED LARGE-FORMAT DISPLAYS

This study aimed to elucidate the measures of flicker nuisance from motion pictures on full colour light emitting diode large format displays for multi-media applications, not lighting purposes. This paper proposes an objective flicker detection algorithm and presents results from a continuous study on assessing flicker light from advertisement purpose. The viewing parameters included 9 video clips, 3 luminance levels of full colour LED display, 2 background luminance levels, 3 durations of dose. The results revealed that the 90th percentile of magnitude spectrum was a better measure for discomfort flicker. Finally, a flicker nuisance prediction model for dynamic lighting is developed for evaluation of LED display outdoor at night.
