An optional design study to enhance the structural design margin for the Japan Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (JSFR) as a commercial reactor concept was conducted, in which the reactor outlet sodium temperature and reactor inlet and outlet temperature difference were decreased. Heat balance (HB) was determined and structural design of major components (reactor structure, pump-integrated intermediate heat exchanger (IHX), primary main pipe and steam generator (SG)) was refined according to change of HB. It was found that the structural design margin against critical thermal loads can be enhanced for those major components. This HB change can also enhance safety design margin as well as core design margin. Increment of the plant material amount would be acceptable.
