New technology poses new challenges for clinicians with colour vision defects

Conclusion: Optometrists and ophthalmologists with colour vision deficiencies are potentially disadvantaged when viewing coloured digital displays. Optometry and medical students should have their colour vision tested so that they are aware of any personal limitations when using computerized diagnostic technology. There is also a need for equipment manufacturers to provide alternative methods of coding information which will assist clinicians who have colour vision defects.
