Proventricular dilatation disease (PDD) affects several psittacine species and is a high risk factor for the health of breeding collections.1'2 After the discovery3 of avian bornavirus (ABV), several studies have demonstrated a correlation between ABV-infection and clinically present PDD1'2'4-9 Clinical signs vary greatly, ranging from classical PDD to CNS signs or blindness 2 The factors influencing clinical development of an ABV infection are unknown; however, one of these factors may be the ABV genotype as several are known.
