Regulation of intercellular glycosylation activities is important in glycotechnology because a number of studies have shown the relationship between oligosaccharide and mechanism of disease development. In this study, we investigated compounds that could modulate glycosylation activities. The purpose of our study is to control glycosylation activities in animal cells. Saccharide primers, such as dodecyl β-lactoside (Lac-C12), are used for the production of oligosaccharides using animal cells. The saccharide primers in the culture medium are taken up by animal cells and are glycosylated by cellular glycosyltransferases. The glycosylated products are released to the medium.
