Interplay Between Localized and Itinerant Magnetism in Eu-Containing Pnictides of the ThCr_2Si_2 Structure Type
Itinerant magnets exhibit strong correlations between their electronic structure and magnetic properties. As a result, their magnetic behavior is highly sensitive to external perturbations, e.g., to applied pressure or magnetic field. In particular, intermetallics of the ThCr2Si2 structure type have been shown to exhibit pressure-induced structural, magnetic, and electronic phase transitions. One of the most impressive recent manifestations of such behavior For example, pnictides AFe2As2 (A = Ca, Sr, Eu) exhibit antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering under ambient conditions but become superconducting at high pressure.1-3
