We reviewed the clinocopathological features and effectiveness of chemotherapy for nine cases of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) producing gastric carcinoma at our department. AFP producing gastric carcinoma had high frequency of liver metastasis and poor prognosis. Intraarterial chemotherapy for the patients without synchronous liver metastasis tended to have some effectiveness in prolonging survival. It is necessary to clarify whether newly developed chemotherapeutic agents (TS-1, CPT-11, CDDP, Taxan, etc) are also effective in treating AFP producing gastric carcinoma.
