TCA precipitation sample clean-up currently appears to be essential for the detection of biotinylated peptides when acrolein-carbonylated albumin is labeled with biotin hydrazide reagents and reduced with NaBH_3CN. These data question the effectiveness, under the conditions employed, of the NaBH_3CN reduction step. Future work will include performing the NaBH_3CN reduction at room temperature and replacing NaBH_3CN with NaBH_4.
