Electron Transfer Dissociation Investigations of the Urinary Proteome and Peptidome in Pregnancy

Urinary polypeptides were subjected to tandem mass spectrometry using both CID & ETD. Relative efficiency of native polypeptide and proteolytic digest analysis by tandem mass spectrometry in marker identification was evaluated. Shotgun proteomics provides a rapid and facile means to protein characterisation. Native peptide identification using product ion spectra was performed using database searching with no enzyme specificity. Significant improvement in observation of meaningful product ion spectra was gained via the use of ETD & high-resolution precursor ion mass measurement.
