The goal of this work is to design, develop, and validate a custom canine oligonucleotide microarray for genome-wide microRNA (miRNA) profiling of canine tissues and especially canine tumors.Methods: To construct the array, we identified putative canine miRNAs based on homology to previously identified miRNAs in other species contained in miRBase (http:/ / microrna.sanger.ac.uk/sequences/). The first-generation canine miRNA microarray consists of 40-mer oligonucleotide probes complementary to 6 known canine miRNAs, 363 highly homologous miRNAs, and 311 predicted miRNAs.
