Abrasive grains are sprayed on a brittle workpiece in the abrasive jet machining (AJM) process. Abrasive grains cause brittle fractures in workpiece, and the machining progress. By scanning the AJM device, complex pattern can be fabricated. However, a conventional AJM device is too heavy to scan quickly. Therefore, it is difficult to improve the efficiency of machining. In addition, the conventional AJM device sprays abrasive grains including agglutinate. The agglutinated abrasive grains deteriorate the machining efficiency. In this paper, a newly developed AJM device is described. The abrasive tank of developed AJM device is separated from the nozzle unit to save weight. In addition, a rotary fan is installed in the abrasive tank to mix and stir up the abrasive grains. As a result, reduced weight and feeding of dispersed abrasive grains are achieved.
