Green lasers have a number of established and emerging applications in military and defense [1], materials processing [2,3], displays [4], and medicine [5]. In comparison to bulk solid state lasers, applying frequency conversion techniques to fiber lasers provides an approach to produce alternate wavelengths and still capture the benefits of fiber lasers. The fiber architecture offers key advantages for laser mode control, distributed cooling, and pump power coupling, all of which translate into benefits for power scaling at high brightness. Fiber lasers also offer compact size along with alignment-free operation even in the presence of shock and vibrations. Another key feature of fiber lasers is the possibility of using fiber to deliver the output beam to a movable location, avoiding a Coude path or articulated optics.
