摘要

In this paper, we report the synthesis of high purity Yb~(3+) doped powders by the co-precipitation method. The effect of the powder quality, fabrication process, and polishing/anti-reflection (AR) coating quality of the final ceramics on the optical and lasing performance is also discussed. In the second part of the paper, we present a unique method of fabricating fine-grained ceramics that will possess a high thermal shock resistance, which is a desirable property for scaling to high power.
