In many regions, capacity limitations on existing airports in combination with estimates for future traffic growth led airport authorities to move airports to new locations. In such cases airport infrastructure development is accompanied by road and/or rail infrastructure needed for the access to the airport by passengers, cargo, visitors and airport employees. Such large scale interventions can bring about significant changes in travel behavior and activity patterns that have noticeable implications on the business plan of the airport. They affect parking service provision, commercial activities, curbside management and the determination of capacity requirements, capital expenditures, revenues, cash flows and pricing policies. They also affect the wider catchment area of the airport. This paper analyses the changes in travel behavior by utilizing before and after survey analysis techniques combined with discrete choice modeling. The Athens International airport is considered as a case study. Passenger heterogeneity and diversity in travel activity are unfolded by passenger segmentation variables such as residence status and trip origin.
