INFLUENCE OF BIO FUELS TO THE LAYOUT AND DESIGN OF FUEL CONSUMPTION MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS

As a result of the worldwide target to reduce the CO_2emissions and because of the wish to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels, bio fuels are increasingly used. For example their share on the fuel market should grow to 5.75% within the EU by 2010. Not only fuel supply systems on the vehicles have to be designed in a proper way but also the fuel consumption measurement systems used on the engine test must specifically be developed for the use with bio fuels like bio ethanol- respectively bio diesel mixtures up to 100%. This paper will explain and discuss AVL's approach to a solution for the application of measuring liquid bio fuels.
