On-line monitoring of VOC emissions from nanofilm coating products using a handheld membrane inlet mass spectrometer

A number of experiments have been made in order to investigate the emissions which the user is exposed to during the use of the recently launched products for surface coating, the so-called nanofilm products (NFPs). The experiments have been carried out in an aerosol chamber, and the measurements were performed on-line using a miniature mass spectrometer with a membrane interface (MIMS), and by sampling using Tenax tubes and subsequent analysis by GC/MS. A number of siloxane/silane type compounds have been identified, and the two applied techniques have proven to complement each other well.
