Preeclampsia Complicating Early Pregnancy Period in a Case of Partial Hydatidiform Mole

Symptoms of preeclampsia started in the first half of pregnancy in a 24 year-old white gravida 1. Elevated maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein and in amniotic fluid were detected, Bloo,d pressure rose progressively from 110/60 to 160/100 ramHg at 8 and 19 weeks gestation respectively. Oedema and lower abdominal pain occurred. Urine dipstick protein 3+, moderate anaemi,thyroid dysfunction, and a high level of hCG were detected, Ultrasound diagnosis of partial hydatidiform mole with bilateral ovarian multiple cysts, oli-gohydramnios, and 4 weeks' IUGR of fetus was performed, The histological examination after pregnancy termination confirmed the diagnosis of partial mole,. The karyotype was 69, XXX. Development of preeclampsia in the 1st half of pregnancy should prompt a comprehensive workup to exclude possible molar pregnancy.
