A sensitivity- and economic analysis of a mobile heat transport concept using phasechange materials in a biogas-CHP installation in the context of the German Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz [EEG] is described in this paper. As general results it can be stated, that under the given assumptions the heat transport is competitive for distances <5km and for a heat supply of >400 MWh/a to actual fuel oil prices. Heat production costs of ~50EUR/MWh are realistic. For short distances (1-2km) and heat deliveries of ~600-700 MWh/a heat production costs of <40 EUR/MWh can be achieved. Distances and heat supply differing form the figures stated above (>5km, <400MWh/a) will show a lower potential for mobile heat transport concepts. A check/comparison of the specific project conditions in relation to the here made assumptions is in any case recommended. The assumptions made in this analysis assume a matching between heat sink and heat source - individual project conditions especially in the heat production/demand will influence the given results. Nevertheless the results of this study give first rough ideas in what ranges a mobile heat transport concept could be economically operated.
