Effects of calcium supply on calcium content and fractionation in potato tuber cells

Two Ca sources and two rates of applications were compared for their effectiveness in increasing tissue Ca concentrations in field-grown potato tubers, cultivar 'Saturna', during 2002 and 2003. Further analyzes were made to determine the distributionof Ca fractions in the nonperiderm tissue. Increasing Ca supply increased mainly the concentration of Ca fractions that were easily extracted. The content of physiologically active Ca ranged between 65% and 78% (in 2002) and between 69% and 74% (in 2003).
