摘要

Chlorophyll degradation occurs during various phases of life cycles and processes of acclimation to different environmental conditions in photosynthetic organisms. For example, in higher plants, a large amount of chlorophyll is degraded during leaf senescence in order to recover nitrogen resources of thylakoid proteins. During the repair cycle of Dl proteins, chlorophyll and pheophytin molecules that are bound to the protein are rapidly degraded. Upon acclimation of green algae, such as Dunaliella salina, to high-light intensities, the chlorophyll contents per cell drastically decrease (Tanaka et al 1997), presumably due to rapid induction of chlorophyll degradation.
