Objective 3- D Evaluation of the Changes Induced to the Upper Airway After Different Levels of Distraction Osteogenesis of the Facial Skeleton, Clinical Correlation to Correction of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This is a retrospective study that presents an objective evaluation of the compromised upper airway by obtaining 3- dimensional images of the air column, the measurements of these images reflected the changes induced in the upper airway after distraction osteogenesis(DO) of the facial skeleton at the different levels, including Mono-bloc, Le Fort III, Le Fort I, Mandible and combined levels.60 patient were evaluated over a 5 year follow up with a proven protocol for DO of the facial skeleton where the indication was Obstructive Sleep Apnea. the measurements showed increased air column thru the process of distraction and different degrees of relapse, only two cases where the osteotomy was a monobloc and consolidation period was less than three months relapsed to develop OSA.
