Emissions From Building Materials Into the Indoor Air. Sources and Control

The aim of the session was to highlight an important source for indoor air contamination, namely emissions from the building itself. Such emissions may include chemicals associated with building moisture (microbial constituents/chemicals, hydrolysis and other reaction products) or not associated with moisture (formaldehyde, VOC from paints or glue, PCB etc), and are associated with adverse health effects. Reducing the emissions may typically involve replacement of building material details, increasing the ventilation and/or using (portable) air cleaners. In this session focus was set at alternative and newly developed products and methods.
