Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydraoxyvalerate) (PHBV) has attracted much attention in recent years as biocompatible and biodegradable polymers with potential application products such as "green" materials and medical product. The characteristics and the physicochemical properties of the material are very extensive. In this report, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical anaylsis (DMA) are used to study the properties of PHBV samples. The results show that the samples have not a good thermal stability with the temperature of more than 189°C. DMA spectra indicate that the tan 5 of the PHBV samples has a clear peak α transition. The α transition temperature, corresponding to glass transition is calculated using Arrhenius equation is 68.15 kJ.
