Experimental autoimmune hepatitis was used as a model for gene therapy using CaPi nanoparticles as vector. Study of immunological parameters such as serum antibody against liver specific protein and antinuclear antibody, as well as histopathological study of liver tissue, were utilized to assess the disease condition. Diseased animals treated with pUMVC3-mIL2 encapsulated in CaPi nanoparticles showed regression of disease state, while diseased animals treated with free pDNA showed no effect. From these studies we can infer that calcium phosphate nanoparticles as vector for gene therapy, has a promising future.
