Current Status and Developing Trend of Direct Use in Global Geothermal Resource

As energy is more and more in short supply and the environmental problems are sharply increasing nowadays, geothermal energy, one of the green and renewable energy, is getting more and more public attention in the world. It is estimated that there is 1.45×10~(26)J geothermal energy in the world, which is equal to 4.95 × 10~6 billion tons of standardized coal and shows a big potential. Direct use of geothermal resource is referred to make use of moderate and low temperature geothermal resource in heating, cooling, medical treatment, farming, travelling etc. China tops all the countries who make direct use of geothermal energy. According to above, researches on direct use of geothermal resource will make a big difference. In this paper, we have surveyed the distribution of geothermal resource in some typical countries such as American, Iceland, Japan etc. Also we have calculated the total capacity of geothermal resource which can be used directly and done some investments in the distribution of geothermal resource in China. The paper has in detail described the current status, total installed capacity and increasing speed of global geothermal resource used directly, and collected and analyzed different technologies of direct use of global geothermal resource. In the end, we have compared and analyzed the direct use of geothermal resource in different countries, and pointed out the current existed problems in the direct use of global geothermal resource. Based on these existed problems, we have come up with some corresponding solutions and developing trend in the near future.
