Extraction techniques

In veterinary dentistry, our goal is to save teeth and maintain a healthy oral cavity if at all possible. There are indications, however, that call for extraction of teeth. Extraction of teeth can be relatively easy if periodontal disease is presentand has destroyed the attachment of the tooth to the alveolar bone and gingiva, or in other cases, extractions can be difficult, time consuming, frustrating, and painful for our patients. Luckily, there are measures that can be taken to help avoid theseproblems. This presentation will focus on extraction instrumentation, pain management, basic steps for extractions, and tips for extraction of specific types of teeth.
