Among many transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric reactions, chiral palladium complexes are known to be the most powerful and frequently employed catalysis for the synthesis of various optically active compounds. Almost all chiral palladium complexes reported hitherto consist of mononuclear metal center, and to our best knowledge, there have been no report dealing with chiral dinuclear complexes having a Pd—Pd bond. Here we describe the first example of optically active dinuclear palladium complexes with a chiral diphosphine ligand and their potential utility in catalytic carbon—carbon bond forming reactions.
