Reflective Plastic Mulch increases Onion Bulb Yield and Repels Thrips

In 2006 reflective silver mulch was investigated as a potential cultural tool to reduce yieldlosses to onion thrips on 3 commercial New York farms.Yields were increased at 2 out of 3cooperating farms hosting replicated trials.A cost-benefit analysis from these farms indicates thatmettalized silver mulch is of economic benefit to fresh market onions growers in New York.Thripsrepellency was not consistent across sites.
