摘要

The aim of this study was to quantify the effect of coal particle size and dense medium beneficiation (washing) on product yields, sulphur and carbon content. The coal is primarily used for gasification in fixed bed dry bottom gasifiers at the Secunda plants in South Africa. Only coal preparation results will be discussed in this paper, and gasifier operational performance with the beneficiated coal falls outside the scope of this paper. A representative ROM coal sample with a top size of 70mm was screened into 8 size fractions between 70mm and 4mm. Each size fraction was washed over a range of relative densities (RD) between 2.1 and 1.4. Each float and sink fraction was analysed for sulphur and carbon content.
