Arterial stiffness in hypertensive patients, complicated with coronary artery disease

The aim of the study was to compare arterial stiffness (AT) and intima-media thickness of common carotid artery (IMT CCA) in 50 patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and in the control group of 26 healthy subjects.. In the hypertensive patients AT and IMT were compared in 2 subgroups with and without of coronary artery disease (CAD). We have found significantly increased mean and maximal IMT CCA on the near and the far wall in patients with AH. In the subgroup analysis IMT CCA was significantly higher in patients with AH and CAD. The measured parameters of AT were significantly increased and AC decreased in hypertensive patients against the healthy subjects and there were no significant differences found in the subgroup analysis.
