摘要

In comparison to post-weaning and grow finish disease, neonatal bacterial infections are less common. The significance of bacterial infections in neonates is dependent on the 1.) age of onset, 2) number of pigs affected, 3) severity of disease, 4) recurrence in subsequent farrowing groups and 5) occurrence of the same agents in post-weaning disease. Generally, the younger the pig, the worse the outcome. Early neonatal bacterial infections may indicate: High exposure dose early in life resulting fromchanges in maternal shedding; Normal exposure dose but a change in the pig's ability to respond to disease. Examples could be related to colostrum and milk intake, viral infections and an inappropriate environment.
