摘要

Streptococcus sms is a recognized zoonotic pathogen and poses a potential risk for those working closely with swine, including swine veterinarians, farm and abattoir workers.1'2'3'4 Recent studies performed in our laboratory demonstrated that three Ssuis isolates recovered from swine meningitis cases in the US were similar to a human isolate previously isolated from a meningitis case in Canada. These isolates shared similar genomic fingerprints and were identified as a serotype 2. Results obtainedin this study provided new insights into the zoonotic potential of 5 sms human infection in the US It also emphasized the need for further characterization of US swine isolates to asses the risk of human infection.
