Efficacy of Aureomycin~R chlortetracycline (CTC) granulated premix in decreasing the potentiation of PRRSV pneumonia by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

The increased severity and duration of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV)-induced pneumonia by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae has been demonstrated in our laboratory. The interaction of these common pathogens is thought to be important in the induction of the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC). Either (or both) of these pathogens are among the most frequently isolated organisms from pigs exhibiting clinical respiratory disease consistent with PRDC. Pasteurella multocida iscommonly isolated from pigs with clinical disease consistent with PRDC and has been shown to increase the severity of disease associated with M. hyopneumoniae infection.
