One MW PV Roof at the Munich Trade Fair Centre ― Results and Experience of three Years of Operation

In August 1998, a good six months after it was commissioned, the Megawatt PV roof at the Munich Trade Fair Centre was presented at the 2nd International PV Conference in Vienna. The successful concept of a central generator and central inverter unit demonstrated for the first time has set a new standard worldwide for large PV systems. We are now able to present detailed results and experiences extending over a period of more than 3 years. If we compare the first six months of 1999 with the six months in 1998 (start of operation and optimisation phase), an ongoing increase in yields from the plant can be seen. The increase points to the fact that the potential for optimisation has been utilized. In addition to important information about the operational behaviour of the plant, new data about the insolation conditions was obtained which has resulted in a new way of looking at how to dimension the output of the inverters.
