Multi-layer intelligent agent environments present special challenges in design and in application. Desirable behavior at an agent, or holon, level may not be the same at a systemic or holarchy level. Multi-layer intelligent agents often function in a hierarchical manner, although different perspectives may define different holarchies, and novelty may require unprecedented action. A model derived from a multi-campus primary and secondary educational environment is presented that illustrates how agents may interact in an intelligent network environment. Furthermore, a potential application of an intelligent network based on a holarchic design deployed in an airport is discussed.
